William and Leroy sat in an older Toyota Prius to blend into the neighborhood. They were staking out Rainbow Sherbert’s apartment in West Berkeley on the border with Albany.
“There’s our boy coming out of the apartment,” said Leroy.
“He’s on the way somewhere with a bunch of boxes,” said William.
Rainbow Sherbert looked fairly nondescript despite his self-given moniker. He was wearing a black denim jacket with black jeans and engineering boots. He had brown, unkempt hair but no rainbow mohawk or anything like that. He loaded all of his boxes into a new, black Mercedes SUV.
“So if he’s keeping someone in the apartment it’s odd that he turned off the lights. What was her name again?” said William.
“Bijou. Yes, odd with the lights unless she’s drugged or kept in a closet,” said Leroy.
“Or she isn’t there,” said William.
“Or has never been there,” added Leroy.
“Plus what’s up with the car?” asked William.
“Do you think our boy is up to more than selling toys on eBay?”
“Nearly has to be, don’t you think?” asked Leroy.
“Maybe he’s a tech consultant with lots of stocks and very little need to work,” suggested William.
“A brony tech genius? Maybe, but bro I don’t see it,” said Leroy.
“Stranger things have happened,” said William.
Leroy nodded and said, “Ain’t that the truth.”
