Buddy had decided that he was going to do something about Santa Claus. He had tried his best to take the decent route, but nobody slammed a door in his face. Nobody.
On the way back to the house he mulled over how he was going to break the news to Veronica that he would take care of Santa Claus. He went back and forth on the details and just as he crossed into the shadow of the redwoods at the front of Veronica’s house he decided on swift action. The best course of action would be to go straight back and give Santa Claus a lesson in respect. Not just a talk, but real action.
As he entered the house he was surprised to see Veronica and Jolene waiting for him.
“Out for a walk, huh?”
Buddy kept his composure despite his residual anger, “Yeah, just a walk.”
“This wouldn’t have anything to do with Santa— would it?”
“I’m not in the mood for word games, Veronica.”
Buddy stepped around her and started up the stairs.
“I already got it. It’s right here,” said Veronica and patted the pocket in her jacket.
“Got what?”
Veronica snickered and said, “Doubt me, you will.”
Buddy started back down the stairs and said with a smile, “No, I don’t think I will. What was your plan?”
“I think that we have had enough of Mr. Santa Claus,” said Veronica.
“So no potions?”
“No, no potions. We’re doing this straight-up, old-school style,” said Veronica.
“Make it look professional?”
“Yeah, that was the plan.”
“I can help with that,” said Buddy.
“I know— that’s why you’re coming with me,” said Veronica and started toward the door.
Buddy smiled and followed Veronica and Jolene out of the door.
